THE LATEST NEWS FROM FINGAL VOLUNTEER CENTRE

Newsletter July 2020

Hi,

We hope you’re keeping well.

Thank you to all volunteers who attended our first Fingal Virtual Volunteer expo last week. It’s been a huge success and we’ll definitely organise another one in the coming months.

On a different note, if you’ve been volunteering in a Covid-19 role for the past few month you might be eligible for a FREE online counselling appointment offered by MyMind.

MyMind is now delivering FREE online counselling appointments for people all over Ireland. If you have been directly affected by Covid-19, you may be eligible. The main mental health issues include issues arising from unemployment, bereavement, social isolation/cocooning, illness, stress, depression, anxiety, addiction, or domestic violence.

To be eligible as a Covid-19 volunteer you will need a letter confirming that you were volunteering in a Covid-19 support role. Please ask your volunteer coordinator for a letter stating you were volunteering and the role you’ve been covering.

In order to avail of the service and make a booking please go to MyMind- Covid 19 Project or call MyMind on 076 680 1060 or email them on hq@mymind.org for more information.

New roles are added to our database on a regular basis and you may also view them yourself on I-VOL before you receive our next newsletter.

We are working from home so to cover all applications and registrations. Our monthly Outreach programme in local libraries has been postponed until further notice.

Your safety and limiting the spread of the Coronavirus being the main priority, we continue to encourage you to adhere to HSE instructions on how best to avoid COVID-19, both in the work environment and at home.

Please bear in mind that we’re constantly working with not profit and charity organisations and there will be more roles on I-VOL in the coming weeks.

In response to reports of increasing incidents of Domestic Violence during the restrictions, Fingal Volunteer Centre has teamed up with Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, Safe Ireland and other volunteer centres around Ireland to create CRiTiCALL – an initiative to support people emerging from domestic violence during the Covid-19 pandemic.

CRiTiCALL aims to provide support to help people in their journey to safety by offering practical resources along with comfort and encouragement from within the community including:

– Donations – purchasing much-needed items and dropping them off in Dublin 8 (Click here to apply);

– Volunteer your home – volunteer a holiday home or second property as a safe haven (Click here to apply);
– Letters of courage- sending letters and hope to those emerging from domestic abuse (Click here to apply).

We’ve partnered up with several nursing homes, both in county Dublin and county Fingal, for our Fingal Letter Campaign.

The idea is to recruit as many volunteeers as possible willing to post letters, drawings, poems or whatever you can think of, to the residents of the nursing homes.

Would you like to take part in this project?

You might even decide to involve your small ones and ask them to be creative and prepare a drawing or something!
