October focus on: Short term/ Episodic Volunteer Roles
Short-term or episodic volunteer roles are like the finger food of volunteering — small, satisfying, and easy to fit into your schedule! They are perfect for anyone who wants to try volunteering while juggling work, study, or family commitments.
As a volunteer, you will be helping at a community event, supporting a fundraiser, lending a hand during busy seasons or setting up a venue for a sports event, and so on. Every hour you help, you strengthen our community.
Episodic volunteering comes in many forms — from one-day projects to seasonal support roles. Here are some popular ways to get involved:
- Event Volunteering – Help at festivals, charity runs, fairs, or community gatherings with setup, registration, and/ or guest support.
- Fundraising Support – Assist with collections, raffles, sponsored walks, or awareness campaigns for local and global causes.
- Environmental Projects – Join one-time clean-ups, tree-planting days, or biodiversity projects.
- Holiday or Seasonal Volunteering – Support food drives, gift collections, or community meals festive/ holiday season.

Looking ahead, our next opportunity is to support the Irish Cancer Society Gathering in Tyrrelstown, Dublin 15, on Thursday, 6 November 2025.
Our volunteers will help make this gathering a warm and welcoming experience for all attendees by:

- Providing friendly directions and information throughout the venue
- Creating a positive, inclusive atmosphere for everyone taking part

Your Voice in the National Volunteer Strategy

Help Shape the Future of Volunteering in Ireland!
Ireland’s first National Volunteering Strategy (2021–2025) was put in place to officially recognise the huge effort volunteers make and to ensure volunteering is easier, open to everyone, and properly supported.
We are now planning a brand-new strategy for 2026 and beyond, and we need your input!
Please take a brief survey and share your experience with volunteering. Your ideas and hopes will directly inform the development of Ireland’s next National Volunteering Strategy.
Volunteer Centre Pop-up at a library near you

Library Pop Ups has been a regular feature at the libraries across Fingal for a year now. The Library Pop Up is a platform to meet with Fingal Volunteer Centre representatives at a local library, ask questions about Volunteering and get support in your volunteering journey.
You can now also drop your Christmas or New Year cards at any library during our next Library Pop-Up event. While you are there, feel free to chat with us about volunteering opportunities — we would love to meet you!
Check out our website for the schedule of Pop-Ups happening this month and find one near you.
