March focus on: Supporting the Elderly

Picture of people working from home on home and craft

Many of us are lucky to have a special elderly person in our life, a grandparent, parent or neighbour perhaps. We learn so much from their years of experience. Not everyone has family around them. Thankfully, there are many organisations that support elderly people to live longer, healthier and happier lives. Available roles cover a wide range of activities, including:

  • Support / Befriending roles for people who enjoy getting to know someone in person or over the phone.
  • Facilitator / Assistants with senior’s activities for energetic volunteers.
  • Tutors / Mentors for DIY or computer skills for volunteers with specific skillset.
  • Drivers volunteer willing to bring patient to their cancer appointments or deliver meals to vulnerable people in their community.
  • Research participants for health studies available for volunteers of all ages.

Check out the following volunteering roles in this field:

Information Event for Over 55’s

We will also be there, call in by our table to have a chat with Megan and Ruth.

To celebrate National Volunteer Week, Fingal Volunteer Centre is hosting a Volunteer Expo on Monday 19th May, 3pm to 6pm in the Malahide Grand Hotel.

Come join us, meet with a wide variety of local and national organisations. You will have the opportunity to discover more about their work and the volunteer roles they have available.

Keep an eye out for our next newsletter for more information.

Community Volunteers 🦺

The community Volunteers had incredible time volunteering at the St. Patrick’s Day parades. We supported the additional needs area in both Blanchardstown and Balbriggan. It was heartwarming to see the joy on the faces of the children and families as they enjoyed the festivities.

Looking ahead, we have an exciting range of one-time events where we will be actively involved:

  • Stewarding at the Eid al-Fitr celebration in Mulhuddart.
  • Supporting Blanchardstown Centre for Independent Living with their bag-packing fundraiser at Dunnes Stores, Blanchardstown Centre, Dublin 15.
  • Stewarding at the Baldoyle Bay Biosphere Festival.
  • Running game booths and marshalling the fun-filled Colour Run at the Safer Together Festival In Blanchardstown.
  • Manning three information areas at Flavours of Fingal in Donabate, Newbridge Demesne.

We’re thrilled to be part of these events and if would like to partake, please check https://volunteerfingal.ie/community-volunteers/
