June focus on: Community Radio Roles

Picture of people working from home on home and craft

A community radio station is a not-for-profit, volunteer-driven, locally focused, and editorially independent media outlet dedicated to serving its community. It plays an important role in connecting people, strengthening communities, and preserving local culture, traditions, and languages by providing a space where local voices, stories, and important issues can be heard.

Community radio also offers valuable volunteering opportunities, allowing people to develop practical skills in broadcasting, journalism, production, research, and technical operations.

New to broadcasting? Don’t let that stop you; training is provided for most roles. Roles can be located in studio or at local events across the local area.

Fingal Volunteer Centre: Craft a Card Initiative

Receiving a card on our Birthday is not automatic for many people living independently. Fingal Volunteer Centre is teaming-up with local organisations in Fingal to ensure all their service-users will get a card on their special day.

We are calling for volunteers to craft hand-made Birthday Cards. No particular skills are required, a bit of time is all you need.

Other New Volunteering Opportunities

Here are some new opportunities that have been posted this month on I-VOL:

Community Volunteers 🦺

So far this month, Community Volunteers have supported Safer Together Blanchardstown, Skerries Wild Bee Festival and the Katy Perry Concert at Malahide Castle. We will be back at Malahide Castle to support Calvin Harris’ Concert on 28th June.

Looking ahead to July, our Community Volunteers will support Fingal’s most popular annual event — Flavours of Fingal on 4th and 5th July in Donabate. Volunteers will support the festival by manning information tents, assisting with children’s safety wristbands, supporting the sensory area, and carrying out general stewarding duties.

On 18th July, Taylor Hill Summer Event will follow suit as a family fun and community event in Balbriggan. Volunteers will support overseeing kids’ activities, general marshaling, crowd management, and litter picking.

These vibrant community events are great opportunities to get involved, meet new people, and enjoy the wonderful festival while volunteering.

Please note that those events are only open to Community Volunteers. Want to join the team, contact Nilofar at Volunteers@volunteerfingal.ie to get your registration started!

Want to know more about AI? Visit AIready.ie

The Government of Ireland has launched a new national artificial intelligence (AI) training platform designed to provide people with access to AI skills.

AIReady.ie enables users to learn the fundamentals of AI through free online courses.

Initially, the platform will offer a series of four free, short courses.

It is designed to support people to develop in‑demand skills needed for work, study and everyday life, regardless of prior experience or technical background.

The platform has been developed by SOLAS, in partnership with the National Skills Council, and is designed to make learning about AI more accessible and inclusive.
