July focus on: Practical & DIY volunteer roles
If you enjoy fixing, building, repairing, or tackling DIY projects, this could be the perfect volunteering opportunity for you. Whether you are an electrician, carpenter, skilled tradesperson, or simply enjoy practical work as a hobby, your skills can make a real difference.
As a Practical & DIY Volunteer, you’ll help older people and people with disabilities maintain their independence by assisting with a range of practical tasks in and around the home. Every role is different and may involve simple jobs such as changing light bulbs, moving furniture, tuning TVs, or installing domestic smoke alarms. Other opportunities may include basic gardening, decluttering, deep cleaning, painting, or carrying out minor home maintenance, depending on the needs of the individual and the organisation.
Some organisations provide tools and transport, while others ask volunteers to use their own tools and have access to transport to travel to different locations across Dublin. Please take a moment to read each volunteer role description carefully so you understand what’s involved and what is expected before applying.
As these roles involve supporting vulnerable members of the community, Garda Vetting is often required.

Community Volunteers 
For Community Volunteers, July has been all about being outdoors and supporting community events like Flavours of Fingal and the Family Fun Day at Taylor Hill Summer Festival.
At Flavours of Fingal, volunteers supported one of our largest and most popular community events, which attracts thousands of visitors every year.
Community Volunteers played a key role in ensuring the event ran smoothly by distributing children’s safety wristbands, handing out event maps, and managing the information tents, providing assistance and guidance to attendees throughout the weekend.
At the Taylor Hill Summer Festival in Balbriggan, Community Volunteers supported general marshaling, crowd management, children’s activities, food service, and litter picking.
Coming up next in August, we have a Garden Clean-Up in Corduff, Dublin 15, on Thursday, 6th August. Community Volunteers will assist with general garden tidying, clearing weeds and overgrown areas, and removing cut tree debris and other garden waste on the day.
On Sunday, 30th August, Community Volunteers will support the celebration of the 50th anniversary of Portmarnock Arch Club. Volunteers will help with registration, act as colour station crew, assist at the water station, provide finish line support, and offer safety support during the colour run.
