July focus on: Remote or from home volunteer roles

Picture of people working from home on home and craft

Volunteering from home offers exceptional flexibility, making it one of the most accessible and adaptable ways to give back. These roles can be done from anywhere, at times that suit the volunteer’s schedule.

Remote volunteer opportunities span a wide range of activities, including:

  • Creative contributions – like crocheting or knitting items for charity shops to generate vital funds
  • Administrative support – Assisting organizations with tasks like data entry, scheduling, bookkeeping, and general office work
  • Letter writing – Sending thoughtful letters to seniors in care homes or individuals experiencing social isolation
  • Pet fostering – Offering temporary care for cats or dogs until a permanent home is found
  • Social media and digital outreach – Helping charities and nonprofits grow their online presence and connect with their audiences more effectively
  • Friendly Phone call or virtual support – Providing a listening ear or friendly conversation over the phone, or staffing virtual support lines
  • Skilled volunteering – Using professional expertise in areas such as language interpretation, web design, finance, HR, legal advice, or graphic design etc. Many organisations also seek experienced professionals to serve on their boards.
  • Group coordinators – Facilitating and organising regular meetings for peer-support or special-interest groups
  • Online teaching and tutoring – Supporting children or adults in learning through virtual lessons or skill-building sessions

From creative arts to professional consulting, remote roles let you contribute in ways that match your talents and availability—all from the comfort of your home. All you need is a computer and steady internet access to volunteer for most of these roles. Some roles may require volunteers to attend in-person meetings once or twice during the volunteering period.
