March focus on: Volunteer Drivers

Picture of people working from home on home and craft

The Volunteer Driver role is more than simply helping people travel safely from one place to another. It is an important role that supports many vital community services.

Volunteer drivers often help transport animals, food, meals, medical supplies, and other essential items that support people and communities in need. Many charities and community groups rely on volunteer drivers to deliver hot meals and food hampers to individuals who may be living with medical conditions or who are in isolation. These services supported by volunteer drivers give people a chance to live independently.

The basic requirement for this role is usually a full driver’s license, although some roles may require a specific type of license depending on the vehicle being used. Some charities or community groups provide their own vehicles and only need volunteer drivers, while others may require volunteers to use their own vehicles as part of the role. Make sure to read the details provided on the role details.

Other New Volunteering Opportunities

Here are some new opportunities that have been posted this month on I-VOL:

Volunteer Expo 2026 (all areas)

The Volunteer Expo is coming to Dublin 15 this year, welcoming organisations and volunteers from all over Fingal and north Dublin.

Expo details:
📅 Date: Saturday, 23rd May 2026
⏰ Time: 12:00 – 3:00 pm
📍 Location: Crowne Plaza Blanchardstown (right beside the shopping centre)

The Volunteer Expo will showcase a wide range of organisations from across the voluntary sector. It is a great opportunity to learn about different volunteering roles and speak directly with representatives from organisations that are currently looking for volunteers.

We will be sharing more information about the participating organisations in the next newsletter.

Community Volunteers

So far this month…
2 full Community Volunteers teams supported the St. Patrick’s Day parades in Balbriggan and Blanchardstown this Tuesday.
